Abstract

Often land use activities are not carried out in accordance with the potential and carrying capacity of the land as well as limited soil conservation technology so that it has a negative impact on decreasing productivity and land damage. This study aims to: 1) analyze land suitability for the development of PAJALE food crops (rice, corn and soybeans); and 2) formulating land management directives. This study uses an analytical approach with a free survey observation distance. Land suitability analysis uses a land suitability classification system using a comparison method between the quality and characteristics of the land with the criteria for plant growth requirements. The results showed that: 1) the suitability of the land suitable for lowland rice includes the moderately suitable class (S2) covering an area of 196.3 ha (2.6%) and marginally suitable (S3) covering an area of 5,327.0 ha (69.2%). Furthermore, land suitable for soybeans consists of moderately suitable class (S2) covering an area of 2,547.5 ha (33.1%) and marginally suitable (S3) covering an area of 2,975.8 ha (38.7%), while land suitable for maize is generally is land suitable for marginal class (S3) with an area of 5,523.3 ha (71.8%); and 2) land management directions to cover the construction of irrigation and drainage channels, application of lime and soil organic matter, application of Urea, SP-36 and KCL fertilizers or compound fertilizers such as ponska as well as construction of dams and flood barriers, especially in flood-prone areas. . In order to increase the productivity of food crops in Wasile District, land development should be carried out on lands that are suitable for both moderately appropriate (S2) and marginally suitable (S3) classes by considering and implementing land management directives on land limiting factors.
